The Swiss Franc has been the official currency of the Principality of Liechtenstein for a hundred years
On 2 September, Philatelie Liechtenstein launched two gold and four silver coins to celebrate the 100th anniversary and the long-standing ties with Switzerland, its partner for customs and currency.
2024 Coins of the Year
This year’s annual COTY ceremony took place on 9 August 2024 in Illinois and honoured ten coins in ten categories. Of the approximately 600 coins submitted, 100 were nominated for the COTY 100 final selection.
Swissmint highlights:
• The Pierre Hermé EUR 200 gold coin, which recreates the three-dimensional shape of a macaron, was named “Most Innovative Coin”.
• The Neutron Star EUR 20 silver coin (from the “Uncharted Universe” series) from the Austrian Mint was named “Best Silver Coin” for the third year in a row. For the first time, all three coins in a series received this award.
Bluey special coin from the Royal Australian Mint
The limited edition Dollarbucks issued by the state-owned Royal Australian Mint were sold out in just a few hours. They celebrate the Heelers, the heroes of the animated series Bluey. Dealers on certain resale platforms were asking astronomical prices for the AUD 55 dollar coins. It is not known whether these were achieved. One thing is certain: the Bluey coins will inspire tomorrow’s coin collector
