Introducing Daniela Weithaler Head of Marketing and Sales

Daniela Weithaler has been working as the new Head of Marketing and Sales, and Deputy Managing Director, at Swissmint since 1 January 2026. The Swiss-Italian dual national from Ticino is already feeling very much at home in Bern. We asked her to answer a few questions so we could get to know her better.

Who do you work with most often and what is your experience of your team?
Here at Swissmint, I have found a very competent team of five colleagues. Some, like me, have only recently joined Swissmint, whilst others have been here for many years. Overall, it is an excellent mix.

What would you like to be proud of by the end of 2026?
By the end of 2026, I would like to have a good understanding of the processes, the corporate structure and the products. In short, I want to be able to say: I’m settled in here. But I also want to be able to look forward to future issues – we want to continue developing high-quality, innovative products that convey Swiss values. I can already say today that Swissmint is very well organised and the staff are excellently trained and work very independently. As a first step, I want to understand and then optimise in a targeted manner. I see a specific need for optimisation, for example, in the shipping of our products abroad.

What is your favourite coin?
I really like a gold stater minted between 310 and 301 BC. It was minted at the mint in Amphipolis following the death of Alexander the Great. The obverse features the head of Athena wearing a helmet, whilst the reverse depicts Nike, the goddess of victory. I am particularly fascinated by the many details and the coin’s slightly irregular shape. As I look at it, I wonder what technical tools the craftsmen had at their disposal back then and how they managed to render so many details with such precision that they are still so clearly visible today. Take a look at this stater here – it’s simply incredible!

What can collectors look forward to?
I want to continue offering the very best special coins. It’s my aim in my work here: every time we launch a new coin, it should be the best possible version of it. Every new special coin should be a new masterpiece of numismatics.

What has surprised you at Swissmint?
What has surprised me at Swissmint? Three things in particular: firstly, the many abbreviations used here. Every department, every regulation and even every building has its own abbreviation. I’ll probably need a bit more time before I’ve memorised the most important ones. Secondly, because of the closely coordinated workflows and the high security requirements, the staff at Swissmint start work early – very early indeed for someone from Ticino. That makes me all the more impressed by how routined and reliable the team is in keeping to this schedule. Of course, I’ll adapt to this rhythm. And thirdly, as Deputy Managing Director, I’m also jointly responsible for the building and the rented premises. I’m still amazed at how spacious and large the building is, and at the wealth of technical installations behind the scenes that ensure everything runs smoothly.
