Celebrating 200 years
of the Swiss Shooting Sport Federation

The obverse of the coin shows a view of a target through the barrel of a weapon. This view is framed by the years 1824 and 2024, and the anniversary “200 years of the SSV”. The reverse of the gold coin is, like the reverse of the SSV special coin in silver, a historical echo of times gone by: the first forerunner of the later shooting thaler was minted in 1842 with an official value of 4 FR to celebrate the shooting festival in Chur. The reverse of the “200 years of the SSV” special coin again features elements of this first coin minted to mark a shooting festival.

Quote from Vito Noto, designer of the 200 years of the SSV special coin:

“I wanted to combine the values and tradition of the federation with the elements that are so important for this sport. To achieve this, I developed geometric shapes for the rifle barrel, sight and target, to which I added the important information about the 200th anniversary of the SSV.”

 

About Vito Noto:
Vito Noto is an industrial and product designer with his own design studio in Lugano. The multi-award-winning designer was responsible for the Swiss Alpine passes special coins, which were minted in 2018, 2019 and 2020.

For the 200^th anniversary, the marksmen are now returning to their roots. A large three-day anniversary festival will take place in Aarau from 16 to 18 August 2024. In addition to traditional shooting competitions, visitors can expect a large festival centre with amusement park, a large food mile, exhibitions and concerts in the Schachen area of Aarau.

From 15 March 2023 to 15 May 2024, the Swiss Shooting Sports Federation held the 200-year anniversary competition for all disciplines. All participants received an anniversary medal regardless of their scores.

All participants were allowed to take part in the anniversary competition several times, even in the same discipline. Participants who completed 3 or more stand sheets received the exclusive SSV silver coin.

Friday, 16 August: 6 pm – 10 pm

Saturday, 17 August: 10 am – 10 pm

Sunday, 18 August: 10 am – 6 pm

The grand finale of the anniversary competition will take place on 17 August 2024 in Aarau and Buchs AG. For each discipline, 50 % of the finalists will be determined by results and the other 50 % by drawing lots.
