125 Years of the Aero Club of Switzerland
Following the “Pioneers of Swiss Aviation” special coin launched on 18 September 2025, the second special coin in the Swiss aviation series will follow on 22 October 2026. This coin celebrates the AeCS and its 125th anniversary. The Aero Club of Switzerland is celebrating this landmark throughout the entire anniversary year – not with a single ceremony or a major air show, but across the country and through a multitude of smaller events organised by the clubs. For instance, the new AeCS balloon took off on 22 March from the Bundesplatz in Bern, and on 30 May the AeCS celebrated the anniversary with a spectacular launch of hot-air balloons en masse. Further events will also take place in the second half of the year, such as the open day at Lommis airfield on 15 and 16 August 2026, the “100 Years of St Gallen-Altenrhein airfield” anniversary
celebrations from 28 to 30 August 2026, and the launch of the “125 Years of the Aero Club of Switzerland” special coin on 22 October. Next year will see the release of the third and final special coin in the Swiss aviation series, which will be dedicated to the future of aviation.

Obverse
This special coin offers a symbolic journey through the history of aviation. The obverse gives the impression of sitting in a cockpit: following a runway marked with the number 125 and the anniversary logo of the Aero Club of Switzerland leads us to the central instrument panel displaying the years 1901 – 2026. Surrounding the cockpit, the history of aviation unfolds in segments – from ballooning and gliding, through parachuting and early aeroplanes, to modern motorised aeroplanes and the helicopter. This creates a dynamic overall design that combines 125 years of aviation history and at the same time represents innovation, development and the enduring fascination of flying.
Reverse
The obverse of all the coins in the three-part Swiss aviation series features the face value of CHF 20, the inscription “CONFOEDERATIO HELVETICA’”, the minting year and the mintmark B for Swissmint. In the centre of these features is a propeller that transforms into a turbine.
