100 Years 100-Franc Vreneli<\/h1>\n<\/div>

The special anniversary issue \u201c100 Years 100-Franc Vreneli\u201d was presented for the first time at the World Money Fair in Berlin. The gold coin, whose design perfectly combines innovation and tradition, will be available from July 1, 2025.<\/p>\n<\/div>

\"HELVETIA<\/picture><\/div><\/div>

HELVETIA aka Vreneli<\/h2>

\u201cThe new coin design should use a Swiss national motif, an allegorical or historical-symbolic representation of Switzerland \u2013 Helvetia \u2013 to express this in a universally understandable way\u201d. This was how the Federal Department of Finance formulated the objective of the minting competition launched in 1895.<\/p>\n

However, the name \u201cVreneli\u201d only appeared in written form for the first time in 1943. Its exact origin remains unexplained to this day. The character was probably recognized as a young girl (\u201cVreneli\u201d) rather than as a mother representative of the country. Others speculate that the name is derived from \u201cVerena\u201d, a traditional German-Swiss diminutive.<\/p>\n

The woman depicted, with her braided hair, symbolizes the values of freedom, independence and peace. In the background, the mountains rise up – a symbol of the beauty and strength of Swiss nature.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

The 1925 Vreneli<\/h2>\n

The 100-franc Vreneli of 1925 is an exceptional gold coin whose artistic design and symbolic status make it unique in the history of Swiss minting. Unlike the 10- and 20-franc versions, which were minted in much larger numbers, the 100-franc Vreneli was created in a limited edition of just 5,000. This makes it one of the rarest editions in the Vreneli series.<\/p>\n<\/div>

The symbolism of the new coin design<\/h3>\n

Unlike the historic Vreneli, the effigy of Helvetia is presented not in profile, but from the front. Helvetia’s pride in its richly traditional past, illustrated by the raised elements and its determined gaze towards the future, represented by the open surfaces, come together in a design that harmoniously combines history and vision. In this way, the coin reinterprets the design elements of the historic Vreneli with a visible respect for tradition.<\/p>\n<\/div>

The confident gaze at the observer<\/h3>

The evolving role of women in the design of the coin \u201c100 Years 100-Franc Vreneli\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cOver the centuries, the perception of women in culture and art has made enormous progress – a theme very close to my personal heart. For me, as a woman and an artist, the design of the 100-franc Vreneli jubilee therefore had a deep symbolic meaning. I hope that every Swiss woman, in particular, will feel appreciated and celebrated as a living part of Swiss history, culture and life\u201d, says the designer.<\/p>\n

The designer<\/strong><\/p>\n

Chiara Principe, renowned artist, sculptor and coin designer, studied sculpture and, in addition, coin design at the Medal Art School in her native Rome. She works for numerous international mints. Commenting on her creation of the 100 Years 100-Franc Vreneli, she says: \u201cThe coin represents a nation firmly rooted in its historical and cultural values, and which, by affirming this identity, looks to the future with confidence\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>[vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1\/2″]

Reverse<\/h3>\n

On the reverse, the face value of 100 francs can be seen on the left half, while the original 100-franc Vreneli bust is depicted on the right half. Additional gentians and alpine roses complete the design. The signature of the artist Chiara Principe and a “B” for Bern are finely visible.<\/p>\n<\/div>[\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1\/2″]

Obverse<\/h3>\n

As in 1925, the gold Vreneli is made of a 900 gold alloy, has a diameter of 35mm and weighs 32.258g. On the obverse, the new gold Vreneli contains echoes of the original, combining the radiating Swiss cross above the Swiss alps with gentians and alpine roses. The image of Vreneli portrays her gazing into the future, and links old and new history. Her head is crowned with a laurel wreath as a symbol of wisdom and triumph, and the edelweiss as a symbol of Switzerland. On the right, the anniversary dates are stamped, surrounded by the words “CONFOEDERATIO HELVETICA”.<\/p>\n<\/div>
