2024 25-Franc Gold Coin<\/h1>\n

It looks back at the classic 25-franc gold coins from 1955, 1958 and 1959, and marks the beginning of a new annual special coin that will be issued from 2026.<\/p>\n<\/div>

On 1 November 2024, Swissmint launched the 2024 25-franc gold coin to celebrate the launch of a new 25-franc gold coin that will be issued each year starting in 2026. The 25-franc gold coins minted in 1955, 1958 and 1959 with the inscription \u201cIN ARMIS LIBERTAS ET PAX\u201d are the rarest gold coins in Switzerland, as they were never traded.<\/p>\n

After the SNB had a large proportion of these coins melted down, a stock of 20,000 coins of each type and year of issue was left over. However, there are no plans to issue these coins to collectors. Only one single coin is privately owned. In 2019, a 25-franc gold coin was sold along with a 50-franc gold coin (both dated 1959) by the Rapp auction house for CHF 97,600.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

At the time the 25-franc gold coins were minted, a new gold currency was planned but never introduced. The coin designs were not without controversy \u2013 in particular, the Latin inscription \u201cIN ARMIS LIBERTAS ET PAX\u201d (for freedom and peace with arms) on the 25-franc piece was criticised by the Swiss Peace Council. What created a stir at the time makes the coin all the more valuable today. As a tribute to these coins, the reverse of the 2024 25-franc gold coin features the iconic Swiss cross, the value of 25 francs and the inscription \u201cCONFEDERATIO HELVETICA\u201d. The obverse, on the other hand, is new. It is somewhat reminiscent of the 20-franc Vreneli coin from 1871: the Swiss coat of arms with the Swiss cross in a square with blooming Alpine rose branches, framed by the inscription \u201cSWITZERLAND\u201d and the year 2024.<\/p>\n

The lettered edge of the 2024 25-franc gold coin consists of 13 stars and the motto \u201cDOMINUS PROVIDEBIT\u201d, which means \u201cthe Lord will provide\u201d and comes from the Bible, Genesis 22.8. It was first inscribed on Bernese coins in 1716 and has been used on the 5-franc coin since 1888. In 2024, this motto was minted for the first time on modern 25-franc gold coins, making this coin unique. The 2024 25-franc gold coin was issued in a limited edition of 5,000 in proof quality. Collectors are already looking forward to the 25-franc gold coins in this design, which will be issued each year from 2026.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>
