Like almost all Alpine glaciers, the Morteratsch glacier receded by about 2,500 metres between 1900 and 2017. In terms of volume, it is the largest glacier in the Eastern Alps.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRosenlaui glacier\u201d special coin \u2013 the second coin in the \u201cSwiss glaciers\u201d series is dedicated to the Rosenlaui glacier in the Bernese Alps. It is 4.5\u2009km long with an average width of 1\u2009km, covers an area of around 6\u2009km\u00b2 and is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Swiss Alps Jungfrau-Aletsch.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRhone glacier\u201d special coin \u2013 the third coin in the \u201cSwiss glaciers\u201d series \u2013 will be dedicated to the Rhone glacier. The Rhone glacier is a valley glacier at the source of the Rhone, in the far northeast of the canton of Valais. It was a major tourist attraction, especially in the 19th and early 20th centuries, thanks to its tongue, which at that time still reached far down into the valley near Gletsch.
