Until now, Swissmint has used the “wooden line” technique for its brilliant uncirculated coins. In this process, the familiar brilliant uncirculated surface is applied to the dies by hand using a piece of wood and a fine diamond paste and then transferred to the coins during the subsequent minting process. It is the wooden line that gives the field a homogeneous appearance. It also conceals the smallest material impurities and creates an attractive contrast with the matt relief.
